Our brick slips provide the perfect finish for smaller internal applications, such as fireplaces and inglenooks. We can supply accessories such as spacers and cement based adhesive to help with application too, which is a more economic fixing method for smaller projects than using one of our panel systems.
Our customers, Louise and Andrew have a 200 year old Somerset long house. The original random stone fireplaces were typical of a functional long house, with a rough finish in need of attention. Rather than rebuilding the fireplaces, which would have been a major job, they decided to overclad them using brick slips from Eurobrick’s Classic Range. They had previously bought brick slips from us to do a chimney breast in another house and were pleased with the results so came back to us for this project too.
Andrew did the work himself, which involved boarding over the stone and then sticking the slips on using our brick slip adhesive, before pointing with our specially formulated standard grey Europoint mortar. The couple chose bricks from our Classic Range as they wanted to retain the character of the period property and the traditional style of our Classic slips complement this.
As they did not want the fireplaces to look the same they used two types of bricks. Newbridge Mix are one of our most popular finishes, cut from traditional stock bricks with multi hues and fissured texture, they provide lovely warm tones and were used for the fireplace in the hall, where Andrew also built in a brick oven detail. Old English brick slips have always been a firm favourite because of their warm tones and tumbled finish that help to create a characterful interior. These were used in the dining room to create a fireplace with attractive recesses for added interest.
Once again, Louise and Andrew are very happy with the results and we are very impressed with Andrew’s excellent handiwork.
