The project required a lightweight system and around 50m² of the narrow gauge X-Clad was installed at first floor level. Narrow gauge X-Clad allows for use of some special sized bricks, including some US and some European bricks. In the case of Larch House the client sourced a handmade brick from Denmark to use alongside the larch cladding. The narrow gauge system allows for some +/- tolerance with a 57mm track and 10mm joint. It will not suit all narrower bricks but for this particular project and brick type it was the perfect fit.
The stunning design of Larch House also earned itself a coveted spot on the front cover of a Grand Designs magazine for a special issue on extensions which you can see here: https://pocketmags.com/grand-designs-magazine/special-extensions#
