Pechiney House

Pechiney House was an ambitious project, involving the conversion and redevelopment of a 2-storey office building into residential apartments by adding a 4-storey upward extension to the existing building. Building upwards in this way can be challenging because of the implications on existing foundations, but our X-Clad system provided a lightweight solution that simplified the process.

The project was completed by Eurobrick approved installers M&M Contracts for main contractor James Taylor Construction, on behalf of James Taylor Homes. X-Clad was fitted to an 80mm insulation panel which was attached to a ply panel on the lightweight steel frame construction, reducing the overall weight of the upward extension considerably.

We supplied circa 500m2 of our 17mm X-Clad system with All About Bricks Sandstone slips and All About Bricks Grey Stock slips for a contrast coursing detail. The brickwork was finished with our Light Sandstone Europoint mortar.

The resulting redevelopment of 42 new residential units including studios and 1 & 2-bed apartments was completed in November 2017. The mixed palette of finishes, using both bricks and timber, created a contemporary finish that was sympathetic to the original building.
